Terra Pranas

Terra Pranas by Christopher Smith

Terra Pranas was created as a part of a series of reclning female nudes. During a drawing session the model took this pose and in many ways it evoked Gaston Lachaises sculpture Elevation. In retrospect I think it was the compression of her forms due to reclining orientation of her body. My first impulse was to call it Levitation and instigate a conversation with Lachaise's piece. I settled on the title Terra Pranas which translates to 'earth breathing'. Its dimensions are 34"d x 16"w x 6"h.
